There are a lot of options when making a sign.
Deciding what you want can be very difficult.
Here are some ideas to help make it easier.
Firstly, what are you wanting to acheive with you new sign?
• is it to promote - set you apart from your competition
• is it to inform - pass on important info to your customers
• is it to warn of danger - it will need to meet Australian Standards
• or just grab attention & look great! -no rules for this one!!
Secondly, do you have to stay within a set budgeted amount?
• signs can be made a variety of ways (plastic, metal, acrylic, brass, engraved, 3D, lit-up, neon, full colour, moving parts, etc)
• the size & location can effect its cost
• durability effects the cost, will it have a short-term or a long-term use (the longer it needs to last, the more durable the materials need to be)
• at times local councils require the sign be approved or registered (this adds to the overall sign cost)
• you may want to do some of the work or install the sign yourself
Thirdly, what do you require on the sign?
• do you have or want a new logo?
• what details do you want to display? (phone numbers, registration numbers, photographs, diagrams, legal requirements, etc)
• do you have pictures or do you need help finding some pictures?
• what colours do you have or want to match? (do you have “Pantone”, Paint, Steel, etc. colour names?)
Lastly, you need to work out a rough draft of what you want?
• even if you can’t draw, just write down the details of your thoughts, it all helps!
